For the second time in a few days, Vitesse Arnhem dropped points against a bottom-half side. RKC Waalwijk came away from Arnhem with a 1-1 draw.

Vitesse have managed to keep up with Ajax all season but in midweek they were hammered 4-1 by VVV-Venlo to drop to third. They were looking to return to winning ways against RKC Waalwijk.

Lois Openda had the ball in the net within five minutes, but the striker’s goal was eventually ruled out for offside. From that moment, Vitesse struggled to create chances and when they did, Kostas Lamprou denied them.

Eventually, in the 72nd minute, Riechedly Bazoer broke the deadlock in fortunate circumstances. His cross sailed over Lamprou and into the net.

However, the lead only lasted a couple of minutes before Richard van der Venne collected the ball and found the top corer with a strike from just outside the box.

Vitesse failed to trouble Lamprou before the end and RKC held on for a draw. Vitesse remains third and if Ajax defeats AZ on Sunday then they will be eight points behind in the title race. RKC are 15th.
