VVV Venlo have climbed into the top five after a 2-0 victory over ADO Den Haag.

The hosts made a lightning start to the match and were awarded a penalty in the first minute when Indy Groothuizen brought down Peniel Mlapa, who netted the resulting spot-kick.

ADO Den Haag were poor and failed to come close to netting an equaliser with chances for Lex Immers and Tomas Necid wasted before the break. At the other end, Patrick Joosten nearly made it 2-0 but his strike came back off the post.

VVV were the better side in the second half but they had to wait until the 85th minute to find the second. A scramble in the box resulted in Jay-Roy Grot hammering a low strike past Groothuizen to seal the win.

VVV climb into the top five while ADO Den Haag are 10th.
