Georgios Giakoumakis scored a late winner as VVV-Venlo defeated Heracles Almelo 3-2.

The home side got a great side to take the lead after half an hour when they were awarded a penalty. However, Giakoumakis saw his spot-kick saved by Koen Bucker.

In the 38th minute, Heracles made VVV pay for the miss as Silvester van der Water fired them ahead. However on the stroke of half-time, Heracles were reduced to ten men when Adrián Szöke saw red after an elbow was spotted by VAR.

Six minutes into the second half, Jafar Arias drew VVV level before Vito van Crooy made it 2-1.

With twelve minutes to go, Giakoumakis gave away a penalty, which Rai Vloet scored to make it 2-2. It seemed it was going to end that way, but with two minutes left, Giakoumakis made up for his error by netting a cross from Guus Hupperts to make it 3-2.

The win lifts VVV to 11th, while Heracles are 10th.
