VVV were relegated from the Eredivisie back in the 2012/13 season but after three seasons of coming close, they finally booked their promotion back to the Dutch top flight on Friday night.
Maurice Steijn’s side went into Friday’s tie at RKC needing a win to seal promotion and they took the lead on 38 minutes through a Clint Leemans penalty. RKC equalised in the second half and it seemed the game was heading for a frustrating draw but Leemans found the net again with a free-kick to restore VVV Venlo’s lead and they survived six minutes of added on time to earn the crucial three points.
VVV are back in the Eredivisie but they still need to seal the league title. They sit eight points above Jong Ajax with four games to go.
Alles heej is VVV!
