On Friday, Weghorst received the news that he had once again been left out of Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad.
However, the striker responded in the perfect way by hitting a hat-trick while also providing two assists in Wolfsburg’s 5-2 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday.
The former AZ Alkmaar star is now the 7th Dutchman to net a hat-trick in the Bundesliga, joining a club that includes Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Roy Makaay and Arjen Robben.
Weghorst has now netted 12 goals in 25 Bundesliga matches this season.
