The transfer fee for the 25-year-old has not been confirmed but De Telegraaf are reporting that Wolfsburg are paying around €11 million.

Weghorst told the Bundesliga side’s website, “I had a wonderful time in Alkmaar, but for me it was clear that it was time for the next step in my career. I am convinced that the move to the Bundesliga is the right decision, and I look forward to meeting my future teammates and my new environment quickly.”

The former FC Emmen and Heracles striker signed for AZ Alkmaar in 2016 and went on to score 45 goals in 86 appearances. His form last season earned him three caps for the Dutch national team.

He becomes the fourth Dutchman at Wolfsburg, joining Jeffrey Bruma, Riechedly Bazoer and Paul Verhaegh.
