Wout Weghorst scored his first goal for Wolfsburg as they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 to head top of the Bundesliga table.

The forward started his second game in a row for Wolfsburg and had something to prove after being left out of the Netherlands squad by Ronald Koeman.

Leon Bailey opened the scoring for Bayer Leverkusen but just before the break, Wolfsburg equalised with goalkeeper Ramazan Özcan scoring an own goal.

Weghorst had a few attempts during the first half but in the 55th minute the former AZ Alkmaar star headed in his first Bundesliga goal to give Wolfsburg the lead. Before the end it became 3-1 through Renato Steffen.

Wolfsburg now has two wins from two games and sit top of the table.
