Wout Weghorst scored the only goal as Wolfsburg downed struggling Werder Bremen 1-0.

Both Davy Klaassen and Wout Weghorst started the clash which was a bore from the start in the Weser Stadium.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw but Weghorst headed Wolfsburg to the victory in the 81st minute. It was the Dutchman’s 12th goal of the campaign.

The result means that with only four games remaining, Werder Bremen sits 17th and three points behind Fortuna Dusseldorf, who occupy the relegation playoff spot. Wolfsburg are sixth and can continue to dream of a European spot.
