Nouri collapsed during Ajax’s friendly with Werder Bremen back in 2017 and suffered permanent brain damage.
During the broadcast of De Wereld Draait Door on Thursday night, Nouri’s brother Abderrahim provided an update on the former midfielder’s progress, “He is no longer in a coma: he sleeps, he sneezes, he eats, he burps. But it is not that he gets out of bed: he is bedridden and dependent on us.
“On his good days there is a form of communication. But that is confirmation through his eyebrows. But you notice that he cannot last that long. What is very easy for us is top sport for him.”
Werder Bremen are happy that Nouri is making progress. Director Frank Baumann said on their website, “We are very happy with this positive development.
“It was a shock to everyone who attended that tragic moment in Zillertal. Of course we were always informed about Nouri’s health and we are more than happy that there is now good progress. We wish the Nouri family and friends a lot of strength for the upcoming months.”
