Sneijder left Galatasaray on a free transfer after 4 years in Turkey and has now signed a one year deal with OGC Nice. Speaking to NOS, he was very complimentary regarding his new club and manager.

Sneijder said, ”I am really happy to be here at OGC Nice. They are a great club with a good team. It’s good to be here.

”I had plenty of time to think about my next club and where I wanted to go after Galatasaray. The most important thing for me was to continue to play at a high level and in the French league that is possible.

”OGC Nice showed in the their recent games against Ajax that they want to play good football and that they have a good manager too which also appealed to me.

”When you are a free agent you can chose what you wan. I had a lot of offers from countries far away . If you playing in a country far away you perhaps fall out of the picture in terms of the Dutch national team. I wanted to remain in Europe playing at a high level and as a consequence of that I will stay in the picture as regards to the Dutch national team.

”I can’t wait to get started. When I am fully fit I will join the squad. We have an exciting match coming up against Napoli so it is a chance to show who we are.

” Also with the World Cup qualifying match at the end of the month v France in Paris . I experienced it before when I played against Turkey in a European Championship qualifier whilst playing my club football in Turkey it is a nice experience

”I had the choice of many beautiful destinations but what appealed to me was the people involved with OGC Nice and the manager Lucien Favre and his vision of football. This is a squad with a lot of talent. I could see that in training this morning.

”I believe that everything is possible and that I can win a trophy with OGC Nice. We can also aim to be around the top of the Ligue 1 too ”.
