After only a year in Amsterdam, Heiko Westermann has left Ajax to sign for Austria Vienna.

The 33-year-old joined Ajax from Real Betis last summer to add some experience to their young back four, but he only made four appearances in the Eredivisie, and eight overall in a disappointing campaign for the German.

Ajax confirmed on Monday morning that the centre-back had left the club, and Westermann has now signed a two-year deal with Austria Vienna. Westermann will be reunited in Austria with his former Hamburg boss Thorsten Fink.
