Ajax’s stunning 4-1 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday was not only massive for the club but also for Dutch football as a whole.

The 2-1 first leg defeat in Amsterdam seemed to be the beginning of the end for the club’s run in Europe and also Netherlands chances of taking 11th spot in the UEFA Coefficients list.

After their win over Club Brugge in the Europa League, Red Bull Salzburg pipped Netherlands into the 11th spot which should mean an automatic Champions League group stage spot for the 2020/21 campaign.

However, Ajax’s stunning win over Real Madrid has now put Netherlands back into the driving seat for 11th. However, Red Bull Salzburg would move above them once again if they were to beat Napoli on Thursday.

Dutch football fans will now be firm Napoli supporters for the next two weeks as they hope to seal 11th spot without Ajax having to work wonders in the quarter-finals.

Whatever happens it has been a great year for the Dutch coefficient. They began the season in 14th spot but have climbed three places and can now only finish 11th or 12th. That means the KNVB Cup winner from the 19/20 tournament would go straight into the Europa League group stages.
