Netherlands ended their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with a simple 5-0 victory over Estonia. Georginio Wijnaldum netted a hattrick while Myron Boadu and Calvin Stengs excelled on their debuts.

After sealing qualification on Saturday, Ronald Koeman decided to make some changes to his starting eleven. Calvin Stengs made his debut for Oranje, with Nathan Ake, Patrick van Aanholt, Georginio Wijnaldum, Davy Propper, Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong all starting.

After only five minutes, Wijnaldum, who was Oranje captain for the evening, opened the scoring with a header. After the goal, Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong made a joint statement against the racist actions that happened during Den Bosch’s clash with Excelsior on Sunday.

In the 18th minute it was 2-0 as Memphis perfectly crossed for Ake to head in. After that, Netherlands continued to push forward but chances came and went with De Jong’s header not powerful enough, while Wijnaldum shot just wide. Stengs was also threatening on several occasions without netting.

At the break, Koeman brought on Steng’s AZ teammate Myron Boadu for his debut and the duo made a big impression in the second half.

Stengs saw a fierce strike well saved by Estonian goalkeeper Sergei Lepmets but the winger then set up Wijnaldum to make it 3-0. Stengs then combined again with Wijnaldum to complete his hattrick in the 78th minute.

In the 87th minute, Kevin Strootman found Boadu with an excellent pass and the 18-year-old calmly finished to make it 5-0 and cap his debut with a goal.

Netherlands finish second in the group with Germany easily defeating Northern Ireland in the group’s other tie. However, the victory caps an excellent qualifying campaign for Oranje, who can now prepare for the Euros next summer.
