After beating PSV last week, Heerenveen knew a win would take them temporarily top of the league, and the visitors took the lead on 41 minutes with Mark Uth firing Daley Sinkgraven’s cross in from close range.
Heerenveen continued to dominate after the break, but wasted several chances to double their lead with Luciano Slagveer missing the clearest opportunity after an hour when he was denied by Kostas Lamprou, who also kept out Maarten de Roon. While at the other end Kristoffer Nordfeldt was on form to keep out Terell Ondaan, Samuel Armenteros and Robbie Haemhouts.
With 15 minutes to go Willem II found an equaliser as Dries Wuytens headed Ali Messaoud’s free kick past Kristoffer Nordfeldt. The home side then made Heerenveen pay for several missed chances as four minutes from time Terell Ondaan smashed into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a throw in wasn’t cleared.
Willem II are up to 8th after the win while Heerenveen drop a place to fifth.
