Willem II came from 2-0 down to defeat Utrecht 3-2 despite being reduced to ten-men in the second half.

The pitch in Tilburg was hit with heavy rain making the conditions difficult for both teams. Utrecht made the brighter start but saw a Sander van de Streek goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

In the 19th minute the opening goal did come for the visitors with Urby Emanuelson sending an excellent cross into the box for Gyrano Kerk to tap-in. Twelve minutes later, van de Streek fired in Utrecht’s second after another fine pass by Emanuelson and it seemed the visitors were heading for a comfortable win.

However, in the 39th minute Thom Haye pulled one back with an excellent free-kick and before the break, Konstantinos Tsimikas equalised with a stunning acrobatic effort which surprised David Jensen.

Five minutes into the second half the comeback was complete as Fran Sol fired Willem II 3-2 ahead after latching onto a fine pass by Mohamed El Hankouri.

Utrecht pushed for an equaliser but found chances hard to create. In the 78th minute they were given a lifeline as Freek Heerkens saw red for taking down Cyriel Dessers on the edge of the box. However, Emanuelson could only fire the resulting free-kick into the wall.

Despite the man advantage, Utrecht couldn’t find an equaliser and they remain fifth in the table while Willem II climb to 13th.
