Meissner joined Willem II on loan last January and made five appearances before suffering a broken calf, which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. The 27-year-old defender has now made the move permanent, signing a three-year contract.

Technical director Joris Mathijsen told the club’s website, “He has since recovered from his injury and we are happy to give him the chance and the confidence to be of value to us again.”

German youth international Akkaynak (19) is a midfielder who comes from Bayer Leverkusen and also signs a three-year contract. He told the club website,  “I had several options in Europe, but for my development I think the Dutch competition is the most interesting.”
