The KNVB are unsure whether UEFA will accept their proposal to award the fifth European spot to Willem II.

In a letter that was sent out to clubs by the KNVB and then leaked to the press, the Dutch FA states that the proposal to award the fifth European place, which is usually handed out to the KNVB Cup winner, to Willem II has not yet been approved by UEFA.

According to De Telegraaf, Should UEFA say no then it is likely that the Netherlands would only have four representatives in Europe next season. Willem II would miss out on a place in the Europa League qualifiers.

That could also have an effect on Feyenoord, who could then be forced to qualify for the competition instead of going straight to the main tournament.

UEFA are expected to make their decisions by the end of May.
