Willem II defeated Fortuna Sittard 3-2 in a rain-sodden Limburg to book their second win of the campaign.

The game went ahead in Sittard despite heavy rainfall which left big puddles on certain sections of the pitch. The pitch didn’t affect the game which was an entertaining spectacle from the start.

Fortuna Sittard went into the game looking for their first win of the campaign and they took the lead in the 18th minute. Vitalia Damascan was played in on goal and he lifted the ball over Timon Wellenreuther and into the net.

Five minutes later, Willem II equalised through a fine header by Marios Vrousai. Willem II were then awarded a penalty for a foul by Grégoire Amiot, which Vangelis Pavlidis netted to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

The home side went looking for an equaliser but just before the break, Pavlidis headed in a corner at the back post to make it 3-1 for Willem II.

Fortuna pulled one back in the second half through Damascan, who latched onto Mica Pinto’s pass before finishing well past Wellenreuther.

Willem II were pushed further and further back as Fortuna desperately searched for an equaliser. However, Damascan put their best chance into the side netting.

The three points lifts Willem II into sixth spot while Fortuna Sittard remains on one point.
