The Eredivisie season got underway on Friday evening with Willem II coming away from PEC Zwolle with a 3-1 victory.

John Stegeman was hit with several injuries going into his first match in charge of PEC Zwolle. Willem II, on the other hand, have lost several key players due to transfers this summer.

PEC Zwolle took the lead in the 39th minute with Lennert Thy slotting into an empty net after Timon Wellenreuther came racing out his box. However, Willem II equalised straight away as Vangelis Pavlidis latched onto a poor backpass from Dennis Johnsen before slotting past Xavier Mous.

Two minutes into the second half, Clint Leemans headed a free kick into his own net to gift Willem II the lead. In the 72nd minute, Ché Nunnely dribbled into the box before setting up Pavlidis to score his second and seal the victory for Willem II.

An excellent start to the season for Willem II while PEC Zwolle need to bounce back next weekend.
