Willem II will definitely remain in the Eredivisie next season after beat rivals NAC Breda 3-1 on Sunday. The Tilburg side win 4-3 on aggregate.

will nacThe KNVB’s decision to relegate Twente put Willem II in the strange situation that they would remain in the Eredivisie regardless of the result against NAC Breda, pending an appeal from the Enschede side. However, NAC still needed to win the tie to reach the top flight and they headed into the second leg leading 2-1 from the home tie in Breda on Thursday.

A hectic first half ended with Willem II taking the lead in injury time as Freek Heerkens converted from Rochdi Achenteh’s free kick.

In the second period, NAC went looking for the equaliser, but they fell 2-0 behind on 68 minutes through Erik Falkenburg who then made it 3-0 five minutes later.

Divine Naah pulled one back for NAC, but despite a bombardment of the Willem II goal they couldn’t find the second which would have seem them promoted on away goals.

The win books Willem II’s place in the Eredivisie, while if the KNVB stick with their decision to relegate FC Twente then De Graafschap will also remain in the top flight.
