Willem II overcame Roda JC 3-2 in an entertaining game in Tilburg.

WUYTENS WILLBoth sides were looking to end the year with a win which would ease their relegation fears and it was the visitors who took the lead from the penalty spot on six minutes after Tomi Juric was tripped in the box. The Australian picked himself up to beat Kostas Lamprou.

Back came Willem II though with Dries Wuytens netting twice in the space of 12 minutes to put the home side in control. Firstly on 23 minutes Wuytens struck a corner in from close range before he headed in another set piece.

Three minutes into the second half Willem II put themselves even further in command with Nick van der Velden finishing from Erik Falkenburg’s cross to make it 3-1. However Roda JC ensured a nervous finish to the game when a corner wasn’t dealt with and Ryan Griffiths nodded in at the back post.

Both Robert Braber and Richairo Zivkovic wasted excellent chances to wrap up the victory but Willem II held on to take the three points. The home side move to 13th, while Roda JC drop to 15th.
