Willem II have sacked head coach Adrie Koster with the club sitting second bottom.

The 66-year-old has been in charge of Willem II since the summer of 2018 and led the club to a Europa League place last season.

However, this season has been a disaster for the club, that is out of Europe, the cup and currently sitting 17th in the league. Willem II have confirmed that Koster has been removed from his position.

Technical director Joris Mathijsen told the club’s website, “We are very grateful to Adrie for the great performances we have achieved together with him. We have worked very pleasantly with Adrie for more than 2.5 years. Nevertheless, we now feel compelled, in view of the disappointing results of this season, to take this very difficult decision in the interest of the club.”

Gery Vink, Chima Onyeike and Harald Wapenaar will take charge of the club’s clash with Ajax on Thursday.
