The 32-year-old defender was a free agent after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season, and set his sights on a foreign move.
However, only Turkish clubs came forward for the defender, and Van der Heijden has now decided to remain in the Netherlands. He has previously played for Willem II on loan in the past, but now joins the club on a permanent transfer.
He will provide competition for Sebastian Holmen and Jordens Peters, while also can be deployed in midfield.
