willems injuredIt was never set in stone whether or not Jetro Willems would be a part of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad this summer. While he has played 11 times for his country before, he was also left out of recent selections, suggesting Van Gaal had not made up his mind about the young star.

Unfortunately, the player’s fate was sealed when he limped off in a 2-0 defeat to Feyenoord on Sunday. PSV confirmed after scans on Monday that the inner knee injury would see Willems on the sideline for the rest of the season.

Fortunately for the young defender, having just turned 20 in March, he will have more than enough time to recover and, having impressed in his teenage years, likely has numerous trips to future World Cups.

I'm a digital/social marketer out of Chicago. I grew up loving Dutch football - total football is the only way to play. I support PSV in the Eredivisie, and whatever team has the most Dutch guys on it in any other league. Hup Holland Hup!
