After putting pen to paper on his new one-year-deal, Willems told PSV TV, “I went to director of football Marcel Brands last season and told him I did not plan to leave the club as a free agent. My heart is tied to PSV and Eindhoven and I want to win the third league title in a row.

“It took a bit longer than expected to reach an agreement but right now I feel happy that we have clarity on my future.”

Willems joined PSV from Sparta in 2011 and has made close to 200 appearances for the club, scoring ten times.
