Canada got off to a fast start with Sophie Schmidt looping a header onto the crossbar, and in the third minute the hosts did lead with midfielder Ashley Lawrence capitalising from 15-yards after Netherlands failed to clear the ball.
Netherlands struggled to find a way back into the game, but with six minutes to go Canada keeper Erin McLeod was finally forced into action to deny Manon Melis as the Dutch attacker bore down on goal. Three minutes later Melis turned provider, this time setting up Kirsten van de Ven who made no mistake in beating McLeod to earn Netherlands a draw.
Netherlands finish third in the group and now wait to see if they will finish as one of the four best third placed sides, which at the moment looks likely.
