PSG talent Xavi Simons has assured Netherlands they do not need to worry that he will switch his allegiances to Spain.

The 16-year-old midfielder, who switched Barcelona for PSG in the summer, is currently a Netherlands U17 international but could eventually switch to Spain having spent most of his life in that country.

However, speaking to NOS, Simons said on his international future, “I only have a Dutch passport, but I could apply for a Spanish passport, but not at the moment. Whether you should be afraid that I will choose Spain? No, no,”

Simons feels honoured to represent Oranje, “I feel proud when I am here and I like to play with guys I don’t normally play with. Playing for your country is very beautiful,”
