A goal and an assist from Burak Yilmaz helped Fortuna Sittard defeat Heerenveen 2-0.

Heerenveen went into the game as the favourites but they were dealt a major blow in the warm-up as Andries Noppert had to pull out and Xavier Mous began in goal.

George Cox and Oğuzhan Ozyakup went close for the hosts early on before Mats Köhlert and Milan van Ewijk tested Fortuna goalkeeper Ivor Pandur at the other end.

The first half was goalless but just before the hour, clever play from Yilmaz led to Umaro Embaló tapping the ball in from close range.

Sydney van Hooijdonk came on for Heerenveen, who pushed for the equaliser. However, it did not come and in stoppage time, Yilmaz settled the victory with a penalty.

Fortuna Sittard are now 12th in the table, while Heerenveen is in 8th.
