Hakim Ziyech has revealed he was close to leaving Ajax this summer for AS Roma but the deal fell through.

The Moroccan midfielder was expected to depart Amsterdam this summer but a move never came and he has started the season in fine form for Ajax. In 10 games, Ziyech has scored four goals and contributed four assists.

Speaking to Ajax TV, Ziyech revealed that he was set to join Roma this summer, “I had an agreement already in place with Roma, but there was not one between the clubs. It’s a pity, I would have liked to go, but it was not possible.”

The 25-year-old has also pledged that he won’t be leaving Ajax in January, “In January, I won’t consider a transfer, I will stay at Ajax. If you go to a new team, you have to do so at the start of the season.”
