A first-half red card for Max Clark proved costly for Vitesse Arnhem as they went down 3-2 at Heracles Almelo.

After only five minutes, Heracles took the lead as Kristoffer Peterson’s cross was headed into the net by Adrian Dalmau. However, two minutes later Navarone Foor equalised for Vitesse with a header of his own.

Vitesse then took control but Martin Odegaard shot just wide, before Mohammed Dauda wasted a fantastic chance in front of goal.

In the 26th minute, Heracles took the lead against the run of play. Again it was Dalmau who found the net with a header.

Vitesse looked to respond but Vyacheslav Karavaev hit the bar before Max Clark was sent off for a second yellow card. Despite the disadvantage, Vitesse went into the break level. Peterson handled in the box and Mateusz Bero netted from the penalty spot.

Heracles struggled to gain control in the second half, despite the man extra, but in the 62nd minute Dario Buijs headed them in front.

Vitesse came close to an equaliser before the end but Hilary Gong’s effort came back off the bar.

The win means Heracles remain clear in seventh and only one point behind Utrecht and Vitesse.
