ADO Den Haag came into the game on the back of four straight defeats in the league, while they were battered in the KNVB Cup by Feyenoord in midweek. Their lack of confidence was evident in a first half which saw neither side threaten an opener.
Paco van Moorsel and Bart Vriends had chances to give the visitors the lead but ADO Den Haag held out and eventually on 57 minutes Sheraldo Becker finished off a swift counter to give the home side the lead.
Thomas Verhaar and Zakaria El Azzouzi were both denied by Ernestas Setkus as Sparta sought an equaliser, and they were given an advantage with Hector Hevel sent off on 79 minutes. However, despite the advantage Sparta couldn’t earn a point as ADO held on for a crucial win.
ADO move up to 14th while Sparta remain 13th heading into the winter break.
