AZ Alkmaar are still in the race for third after a 2-1 win over ADO Den Haag on Thursday.

After a decent start by John van den Brom’s side they took the lead on 21 minutes as Dabney Dos Santos sidestepped a rash challenge from Tom Beugelsdijk before finishing calmly past Martin Hansen.

On 65 minutes AZ regained the lead as Ben Rienstra played Markus Henriksen through on goal and the midfielder calmly finished past Hansen. The visitors could have added further goals before the end, but Vincent Janssen sent a shot wide, while van Overeem failed to find Henriksen in a two-on-one break.

The victory maintains AZ’s lead over Utrecht in fourth, while ADO Den Haag remain 11th.
