Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven ended their excellent season with a 3-2 victory over ADO Den Haag.

de jong adopsThe Eredivisie champions spend midweek celebrating their title win in Ibiza, and it seemed some of the PSV player’s head’s were still on holiday as ADO Den Haag began the game as the better side. After 24 minutes the home side had the lead when Aleksandr Iakovenko’s shot from distance curled past a out of position Jeroen Zoet and into the bottom corner. Moments later it was nearly 2-0, but Zoet made a terrific diving save to stop Giovanni Zuiverloon’s overhead kick.

Memphis Depay, playing his final PSV game, had an excellent chance to equalise when he raced through on goal from Andes Guardado’s pass, but the Manchester United bound winger blazed his shot over. However just before the break a swift passing move around the box ended with Luuk de Jong squaring for Luciano Narsingh to net an equaliser for PSV.

ADO Den Haag made a quick start to the second half with Karim Rekik having to make a terrific challenge to prevent Michiel Kramer tapping in from close range, while Roland Alberg had the ball in the net, only for the linesman to raise his flag. Eventually after 57 minutes ADO Den Haag retook the lead with Danny Bakker given too much room in the PSV box to curl past Zoet and into the top corner.

However the lead did not last long as PSV equalised on the hour mark as Memphis set up Luuk de Jong to tap in his 20th league goal of the season. The assist would be one of Memphis Depay’s final actions for PSV, with Phillip Cocu bringing the winger off for Jurgen Locadia near the end.

PSV pushed for the winner, and with the final attack of the game Georginio Wijnaldum rose in the box to head in a last second winner. The three points puts PSV on 88 points, a record for the club, while ADO Den Haag end the season in 13th.
