The home crowd were expecting a response from ADO Den Haag’s players after they were embarrassed in the cup by amateur side Genemuiden, and after seven minutes they lead through Mike Havenaar who tapped in Eduoard Duplan’s cross.
Excelsior barely troubled the ADO Den Haag defence but before the break they were level as Adil Auassar found the top corner with a strike from distance.
Five minutes into the second half Gianni Zuiverloon rose to head in a corner at the near post to restore ADO Den Haag’s lead, but once again Excelsior came back as Aussar once again beat Martin Hansen on the hour mark.
Havenaar put the home side 3-2 up with a tap in on 65 minutes, but on 83 minutes Bradley Kuwas went on a fine solo run before firing into the top corner to earn the away side a point.
ADO Den Haag remain 14th with the point, while Excelsior are two places below them.
