Bjorn Johnsen scored twice as ADO Den Haag came from behind to beat Excelsior 2-1 in Rotterdam.

The home side dominated from the start as they went in search of only their third win at the Stadion Woudestein this season, but Robert Zwinkels kept out efforts from both Ali Messaoud and Luigi Bruins.

Eventually, after half an hour Zwinkels was finally beaten as Milan Massop rose to head in a corner to give Excelsior the lead. Levi Garcia nearly made it 2-0 before the break but Zwinkels came to his side’s rescue again.

ADO Den Haag came to life after the break and they levelled the score on 52 minutes through Johnsen, who netted on the rebound after Hicham Faik headed the ball onto his own crossbar.

Erik Falkenburg then hit the post for the visitors, who took the lead with twelve minutes to go as Johnsen saw his effort deflect of Wout Faes before nestling into the net.

Excelsior couldn’t find an equaliser before the end with Massaoud denied by the crossbar late on. ADO Den Haag remain 8th and on course for a place in the European play-offs, while Excelsior are 11th.
