All eyes in the Galgenward Stadion were on Timo Letschert, who received a shock call-up into the Dutch national team’s provisional squad for the upcoming friendlies with France and England. Sunday was a chance for the centre back to impress Danny Blind once more, but the game ended in disaster for Letschert, who was forced off early with a shoulder injury after landing awkwardly.
When the action got back underway Utrecht took charge and after 23 minutes Sebastien Haller brilliantly controlled the ball in the box with his knee before sending a bicycle kick into the net. On form Ruud Boymans then added a second before the break after a nice combination between Bart Ramselaar and Andreas Ludwig.
Just after half time ADO Den Haag got themselves back into the game through a Danny Bakker free kick which eluded Robbin Ruiter in the Utrecht net. The goalĀ gave the visitors confidence and just after the hour mark Mike Havenaar nodded in the equaliser.
Both sides had chances to find the winner, but the best chance fell to ADO Den Haag with Ruben Schaken’s chip falling just wide after the winger raced in on goal.
The point leaves Utrecht fifth, while ADO Den Haag are tenth.
