ADO Den Haag have their first signing of January with Middlesbrough defender Sam Stubbs joining on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who is the son of former Everton great Alan Stubbs, was on loan with Scottish side Hamilton for the first half of the season, but Middlesbrough have cut that short to send the defender to ADO Den Haag.

The Englishman was a regular starter in Scotland, making 19 appearances, but he now becomes Alan Pardew’s first new recruit since he took charge of the Hague-based club last month.

Stubbs will provide competition for Tom Beugelsdijk and Shaquille Pinas, who have been the first choice centre-back partnership so far.
