Excelsior are still in danger of automatic relegation after a 3-1 defeat at ADO Den Haag.

Excelsior went into the game knowing that a victory would seal NAC Breda’s relegation and ensure their own safety from automatic relegation. However, they were coming up against Nasser El Khayati, who netted four goals in ADO Den Haag’s 4-2 win in Rotterdam earlier this season.

After only three minutes the deadlock was broken and of course it was El Khayati, who fired in Sheraldo Becker’s cross to make it 1-0.

Excelsior went close through an Ali Messaoud header which was turned wide by Robert Zwinkels. However, from the following corner, Jeffrey Fortes did score to make it 1-1.

On the half-hour mark, ADO restored their lead when Danny Bakker headed in a corner.

In the second half, there were few chances for either side but eventually, ADO sealed the win in the 72nd minute when Becker cut inside before finding the net with a deflected effort.

The win sees Excelsior remain second bottom and five points above NAC with two games left. ADO Den Haag are 10th.
