The 33-year-old will leave Istanbul Basaksehir this summer, and has been linked to his former clubs ADO Den Haag and FC Twente, while Arjen Robben is helping Groningen try and convince the winger to choose the Euroborg.
Speaking to Omroep West, Elia said, “My agent has already spoken to many clubs. Clubs have also called me. Ron Jans (Twente boss) called me. I spoke to ADO director Mohammed Hamdi, I spoke to Martin Jol. Taco van de Velde, a good friend of mine who now works at ADO, called me. Arjen Robben also sent me a message . “
On ADO, Elia said, “They made a really nice video for me. It really expressed a lot of appreciation. They really want me … It could be the ideal picture. We have to look and talk about what is possible. I only have good things about Hamdi I’ve heard stories about Jol for a long time. When I went to HSV, he unfortunately just left.”
Elia is focused on a return to the Netherlands despite foreign interest, “Of course I have the feeling that I want to go back to the Netherlands, but it has to be right from both sides. Submitting a salary is also part of my age and country, in this case, the Netherlands. The budget is not that big. Ajax has a big budget. Speaking of money, I don’t look at it purely anymore. I have built something up and I have to make sure that I am well rested for the rest of my life. When I come back to the Netherlands it is purely to perform and have fun.”
