111kosteru21The former Excelsior, Club Brugge and Roda JC boss was appointed as Jong Oranje boss following Albert Stuivenberg’s departure to Manchester United as part of Louis van Gaal’s backroom staff. With Koster at the helm, the Dutch U21 side failed to qualify for the upcoming EURO finals.

Jelle Goes (technical director KNVB) said the following about Koster’s departure: “Koster is a real pro. I thought so at the time of his appointment and I still think so.  In that resspect we are all saddened by his decision to leave, but we respect his decision.”

Remy Reijnierse will now be at the helm of the Dutch U21 side for the time being. Reijnierse is no stranger to the KNVB as he has been at the helm of several youth teams already.
Jelle Goes is confident Reijnierse is a good short-term solution which allows the Dutch FA to take some time to appoint the next full-time boss.

Jong Oranje will play one more game this year, against Germany in a friendly. Having not won under Koster, a win would be a welcome boost for Reijnierse and his team.
