The result leaves Netherlands with a task of winning by a 7 goal margin against Sweden on Tuesday in Amsterdam to still qualify for a World Cup play-off place.

Advocaat said, ”We did not play our best game tonight and if you know beforehand that you must score 5 or 6 goals that is different than playing the game simultaneously with Sweden.

”We wanted to win by a huge scoreline tonight and we did everything we could to achieve that but you must not forget that certain players are not in form and that Belarus beat Bulgaria here 2-1 during the qualifying campaign.

”In hindsight, you can perhaps say what we could have done better during this qualifying campaign.

”If you know that an opponent has lost 8-0 you do not expect it especially as the same team that drew with France a few weeks ago.

”We must be angry with ourselves not with Luxembourg. It’s not over we still have a game to play on Tuesday.”
