The midfielder came on as a substitute in the friendly wins over Morocco and Ivory Coast over the past week. Sneijder equalled Edwin van der Sar’s record number of caps for Oranje against Ivory Coast and he will surpass the former goalkeeper on Friday when he earns his 131st cap against Luxembourg.

Speaking at his first press conference, Advocaat confirmed that Sneijder would start the World Cup qualifier.

He said, ”I have watched Wesley Sneijder play for Galatasaray the whole season and I believe he is the best player of Galatasaray and also in Turkey. The Turkish league is very difficult and Sneijder will start the game against Luxembourg on Friday.”
