The Premier League club confirmed on Saturday that the 30-year-old had suffered a serious knee injury in training on Friday and now faces at least six months out.
Afellay has been a regular for Stoke City this season, scoring three times in 36 matches whilst also starring for the Netherlands national team in their recent friendlies with France and England.
The injury will come as a massive blow to Afellay, who’s career since leaving PSV in 2011 has been marred by a number of serious injuries.
