Ajax and PEC Zwolle allowed PSV Eindhoven to take a two point lead at the top of the Eredivisie after playing out a 0-0 draw in the Amsterdam Arena.

ajapecPEC Zwolle have gotten the better of the Eredivisie champions in the last two matches between them, 5-1 in the KNVB Cup final last season, and 1-0 in the Johan Cruyff Schaal in August, and once again they proved to be Frank de Boer’s bogey side.

After only three minutes PEC Zwolle almost took the lead with striker Thomas Necid sending a fierce shot straight at Jasper Cillessen in the Ajax goal.

Ajax took control the longer the first half went on, but failed to make it count with Warner Hahn denying Kolbeinn Sigthorsson in their only real chance. Frank de Boer had seen enough in the opening forty five minutes to know changes were needed and Ricardo Kishna along with Nick Viergever were brought off the bench.

Although the changes helped Ajax control the second half, neither was able to inspire the opening goal, and it wasn’t until the 65th minute that the home side created a chance, with Sigthorsson’s volley hitting the top of the bar.

The best chance of the game fell to Kishna in the last minute of time, but the winger blazed over the bar from the edge of the area to sum up a frustrating afternoon for Ajax.

Ajax remain 2nd, with PEC Zwolle a place behind, but they have handed the initiative back to PSV in the race for the title.
