Ajax have been comfortable in all of their home games so far this season, winning without really needing to get out of first gear. It was the same in the first half against Groningen, as Ajax dominated the possession but only had one goal to show for it at the break with Nemanja Gudelj firing a free-kick from just outside the box past Sergio Padt.
Early in the second half Arkaduisz Milik was presented with three excellent chances to double the lead, but the Polish striker failed to hit the target much to the annoyance of the home crowd.
Groningen failed to make Ajax pay for the misses and ten minutes before the end substitute Viktor Fischer bustled his way into the box before chipping the ball over Sergio Padt to seal the victory.
Ajax will remain top for another weekend after the victory, while Groningen sit eighth.
