Despite the early goal, Ajax could not extend their lead before the break, with Lasse Schone passing up the best chance to make it 2-0 in a subdued Amsterdam Arena.

After the break, Viktor Fischer failed to finish when one on one with Rempko Pasveer, and then failed to control a ball at the back post, which seemed simple.

However the Dane made up for it on 56 minutes, as he finished from close range to make it 2-0 after Lasse Schone found him with a ball across the box.

The win was sealed on 78 minutes when Davy Klaassen headed in Nicolai Boilesen’s curling cross to make it three for the Eredivisie champions.

Ajax temporarily go ahead of Vitesse, who play on Sunday, at the top of the table, and go into their tie with Barcelone next week full of confidence. Heracles were very poor on the night, and barely threatened the home goal.
