Ajax hammered Roda JC 6-0 and Cambuur 5-1 in their last two Eredivisie ties in Amsterdam and they took only 11 minutes to open the scoring against Heerenveen, with Viktor Fischer racing onto Davy Klaassen’s pass before slotting past Erwin Mulder.
Fischer then turned provider ten minutes later to find Arkaduisz Milik in the box, and although the striker mis-controlled the pass he eventually found the net with his second touch. Just before the half hour mark it was 3-0 for the hosts as Amin Younes danced through a static Heerenveen defence before beating Mulder.
Two minutes into the second half Mitchel Te Vrede shrugged off Joel Veltman to latch onto a long ball and calmly beat Jasper Cillessen to pull one back for Heerenveen. However any chance of a comeback was swiftly ended as Fischer made it 4-1 on 53 minutes, with the Dane finishing off a fine team move.
Ajax were awarded a penalty on 65 minutes for a tug back on Milik by Kenny Otigba, but the Pole sent his spot kick high and wide. Five minutes later Milik made up for the miss by setting up Klaassen in the box, and the captain fired a fierce strike into the net for Ajax’s fifth. Heerenveen would pull another consolation back before the end though as Cillessen’s attempt to stop the ball going for a corner only gifted Te Vrede his second of the evening.
Ajax remain four points ahead of PSV, who climbed to second earlier on Saturday, while Heerenveen sit 11th.
