In an important show of solidarity, only sporting director Edwin van der Sar and operations director Rutger Arisz will join the Ajax squad in Rotterdam for their semi-final clash with arch-rivals Feyenoord on Wednesday.

The announcement comes in response to a request from supporters who have been banned from attending this fixture for a decade now, though an Ajax spokesperson suggested the board had been playing with the idea themselves.

The decision comes off the back of growing frustration on behalf of the Amsterdam club that the fixture is likely to remain off limits for travelling fans for the foreseeable future.

The winner will set up a final against either Willem II or AZ Alkmaar.
