Ajax remains seven points behind PSV after they came from behind to defeat NAC Breda 3-1 in Amsterdam.

Ajax ran out 8-0 winners in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but any repeat of that was quickly snuffed out by NAC Breda, who took the lead after only eight minutes through Thierry Ambrose.

The goal woke Ajax up and in the 24th minute, Justin Kluivert’s cross was perfect for Donny van de Beek to nod in the equaliser. Seven minutes before the break, David Neres picked the ball up on halfway, jinked past two challenges and fired low into the bottom corner to give Ajax the lead.

NAC were allowed back into the game in the second half with Mounir El Allouchi and Angeliño going close to finding an equaliser. At the other end, goalkeeper Mark Birighitti had to keep out efforts from Kluivert, Klaas-jan Huntelaar and Matthijs de Ligt.

In injury time, Bart Meijers was sent off for a foul on Ziyech and the midfielder picked himself up to net the free-kick and seal the win for the hosts.

Ajax stay second and seven points off PSV, while NAC are 16th.
