PEC Zwolle went into the game rock bottom of the table but they stunned the home crowd after only five minutes with Wout Brama taking on a pass before lashing the ball past Onana to put Ron Jans’s side into a surprise lead.
However, that lead only lasted four minutes before Davinson Sanchez nodded in an equaliser after Hakim Ziyech’s corner was headed to the far post by Davy Klaassen. Seven minutes before the break the centre-back rose to meet another Ziyech corner to powerfully head Ajax in front.
Ten minutes into the second half Kasper Dolberg raced onto a perfect through ball by Ziyech and fired past Mickey van der Hart to make it 3-1, and before the hour mark Bertrand Traore slalomed through the PEC Zwolle back four before finding the bottom corner for his first league goal of the season and Ajax’s fourth of the evening. PEC Zwolle’s defence then fell apart as Dolberg was around to run towards the box unchallenged before sending a powerful strike off the bar and over the line, goal-line technology was used to prove it, for Ajax’s fifth and final goal of the game.
The victory, which was Ajax’s sixth in a row, moves the club up to second while PEC Zwolle will once again finish the weekend bottom of the table.
